It has a traditional approach, starting with historical overviews from giants in the field, and includes chapters on surgical anatomy, physiology, diagnostic tests and manoeuvres, followed by in-depth chapters on virtually every surgical disease affecting these organs. Special attention is paid to neoplastic diseases. Extensively illustrated this is a work with an international perspective. Formerly "Surgery of Stomach and Small Intestine" by Nyhus and Wastell, that text has now been revised and updated for this edition with a new section on esophageal disorders accounting for half the book. In addition, new contributors have supplied much of the revised material.
