内容説明

Developed from a symposium sposored by the Division of Environmental Chemistry at the 206th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society, Chicago, Illinois, August 22-27, 1993, this this work describes the current status and potential of benign-by-design chemistry - synthetic chemistry designed to use and to generate fewer hazardous substances. It describes new techniques for carrying out transformations in environmentally benign solvent systems. The book presents research results on: 1) the replacement of hazardous feedstocks with biologically derived, innocuous feedstocks; 2) - the replacement of hazardous reagents with visible light; and 3) the replacement of phosgene, benzene and halogens in a variety of industrially important reactions. The book also provides industrial examples of how alternative synthetic design for pollution prevention has been made commercially viable. It describes how to conduct a source-reduction assessment, and analyzes computer-assisted sysnthetic design as a way to identify new alternative syntheses for pollution prevention.
