Description and Table of Contents

Description

This provides the background to more that 500 years of Russian and Soviet art and artists with over 5,000 individual entries. The book also gives access to important information hitherto available mostly in Russian and should be a useful reference for scholars and collectors. Increasing numbers of Russian art exhibitions have been held in recent years which have generated a great deal of excitement and interest. It is certain that much more Russian art will be displayed in exhibitions and appear in the saleroom as communications with the West grow again after the long period of the Cold War. "A Dictionary of Russian & Soviet Artists" is designed to make relevant information available in English so that readers may gain access to what was once written about mostly in Russian. The Dictionary also lists further reading and collections holding works by Russian painters, sculptors and printmakers. Profusely illustrated throughout with hundreds of examples in black and white and colour, the reader will find the subject highly rewarding. This exciting new Dictionary aims to make the subject of Russian art especially compelling by presenting the basic background to the work of Russian and Soviet artists, from about 1420 to the 1970s, in an attractive, accessible way.
