Description

This reference covers aspects of infertility diagnosis and treatment. Sections include reproductive physiology, reproductive cycle disorders, contraception, infertility evaluation, therapy of infertility, assisted reproductive technologies, problems with pregnancy, menopause, and specialized procedures. The emphasis is on understanding the basic mechanisms that apply in regulation of fertility, monitoring ovulation, and the diagnosis of ovulatory and other defects. The evaluation of both male and female are covered extensively. Behavioural and environmental influences on interpersonal relationships are considered, as they relate to treating the infertile patient. Diagnostic and therapeutic surgery are covered in detail, including laparoscopy, hysteroscopy, hysterosalpingography, laser and microsurgery, the medical and surgical treatment of endometriosis, and the reversal of sterilization. Also included are laboratory procedures and values, such as semen analysis and oocyte assessment.
