Description
This title describes current machine-learning research and applications in engineering design domains. It covers current research directions and results. The development of machine learning techniques for design knowledge acquisition is presented through the identification of design knowledge elements, development of knowledge representation, and the selection or development of machine-learning methods for knowledge generation. Each of these issues is described through a review of relevant research work, an examination of the challenges and difficulties, and the contributions made by this book. In addition, a knowledge representation called design concept is introduced and a machine-learning system is presented which automatically generates design concepts from previous design examples. Complexities in evaluating machine-learning results are described and avenues of further investigation are identified.
