Land resources are finite. If human populations continue to increase at the present rate there will be twice as many people in the world in about 60 years. Therefore there is an urgent need to match land types and land use in the most rational way possible. Land-use planning is fundamental to this process. These guidelines aim to aid those involved in planning the development, management and conservation of rural land. Included is practical advice on the preparation of plans and a framework of the principles and methods by which specific problems can be solved and opportunities can be developed.
