In the last 15 years dental implantology has advanced from being an innovative, pioneering technique to an almost commonplace alternative to conventional fixed and removable dental prostheses, routinely available in most dental hospitals and many specialist practices. In this book the authors present a comprehensive overview of the field, superbly illustrated with line diagrams and colour photographs. Divided into three parts the book begins with theoretical considerations, the biology of bone, surgical anatomy, techniques of bone assessment and choice of materials. Part 2 covers patient assessment and preparation, surgical equipment and procedures, concluding with postoperative problems and aftercare. The final part illustrates the design and construction of the various types of implant-supported prostheses and their use for different clinical applications.
