Description and Table of Contents

Description

This volume contains the proceedings of the International Conference of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers on Engineering for Profit from Waste. The conference was organized to deal with current issues in environmental management relating to land, water and air. The introduction of the 1990 Environmental Protectuion Act and other related codes has had a dramatic impact on design, operation and management of mechanical engineering systems, and concepts such as Integrated Pollution Control and Clean Technology have evolved.

Table of Contents

  • The disinfection of sewage treatment works effluent using UV radiation
  • overland flow - a low technology approach to landfill leachate treatment
  • liquid effluent heavy metal discharges from a municipal incinerator plant - a test case for the Environmental Protection Act 1990
