Description
This work traces the professionalization of the artist in the Renaissance through the successive patronage of the mendicant orders, merchant families, princely and ducal rulers, to the great papal patrons, Julius II, Pius II and Sixtus IV. The book takes the reader from Siena to Florence, to the court of Federigo da Montefeltro in Urbino and finally, to the papal court of Rome.
