Description and Table of Contents

Description

Clinical laser applications in otorhinolaryngology have become an established and important addition to conventional methods of treatment and surgical techniques. This volume explains the effects of today's differnt laser systems on tissue and defines the crucial safety requirements for the respective devices. Topics discussed range from photodynamic therapy with different photosensitizers to laser treatment of tattoos, vascular malformations and haemangiomas. Special emphasis is placed on the controversial discussion of new surgical procedures with CO2 lasers that permit the excision of carcinomas in the oral cavity, the pharynx and the larynx, often without major functional damage to the tissue structures involved.
