Description

"One of the reasons I decided to go ahead with the idea of a book of sketches is a suspicion that there is a negative side to the current explosion of computer-generated imagery. I worry about students who might feel that the power of such sophisticated equipment has somehow rendered the humble pencil if not obsolete, then certainly second rate." The line is from Norman Foster's forward to his 1992 publication, "Sketches." He continues: "If I have a hope for this book it is that it might stimulate a greater sensitivity amongst architects to the value and pleasure of sketching as a vital part of the architectural process." It was precisely in this spirit that the present student edition of "Sketches" was conceived. Augmented by new work from Foster's latest projects, it compresses the essence of the first edition into a more practical format.
