Description
This is an examination of bispecific antibodies (BsAb), molecules that have two different specificities. BsAbs can be prepared which bind both to target cells (pathogens or tumours) and to toxins, enzymes or cytotoxic trigger molecules on leukocytes. The authors consider how BsAbs are prepared and used in: targeting the cytotoxity of tumours, infectious agents and infected cells; vaccine development; and targeting drugs and radioisotopes. By redirecting normal cytotoxic mechanisms or targeting other molecules and cells, BsAbs represent a potentially powerful new therapeutic tool able to focus natural physiological mechanisms in the treatment of a variety of disorders.
