Description

This text is divided into four sections. The first provides a review of biological and psychopharmacological areas including neurotransmitters, receptors, molecular neurobiology, biochemical anatomy, electrophysiology, animal models and pharmokinetics. The second section presents the classes of psychiatric drugs, including anxiolytics and antidepressants, antipsychotics, treatments for bipolar disorder and other agents. The third section reviews biological studies by their disease categories, such as mood disorders, schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, alzheimers disease, psychoactitive dependence disorders and eating disorders. The final section covers recent psychopharmacological treatments for each type of disorder as well as special settings. It also includes an appendix on promising new agents in Europe and Canada.
