Description

The 22nd annual report of results from the General Household Survey offers an opportunity to review some of the trends and changes in the population and among households and families which have been identified by the survey. Chapters cover: people, families and households; health; smoking; drinking; occupational and personal pension scheme coverage and additional tables provide figures on employment, education, family information and housing. Findings included: The proportion of women aged 18-49 who were married decreased from 74% in 1979 to 59% in 1992. 60% of men and 68% of women wore glasses and/or contact lenses in 1992. There has been a dramatic reduction in the proportion of smokers smoking middle tar cigarettes, from 40% in 1986 to 4% in 1992. In 1992, 27% of male full-time employees, 21% of female full-time employees and 12% of female part-time employees were members of a personal pension scheme.
