Description
This work on the medical management of AIDS has been revised and expanded to include the latest developments and care guidelines for HIV-infected patients. It focuses on clinical issues and includes updates on the biology and epidemiology of HIV. In addition, it outlines the initial diagnostic evaluation of AIDS patients and reviews multi-disciplinary treatment approaches. The book also presents expanded coverage of antiretrovial chemotherapy that includes both new drugs and combination chemotherapy, and has a new chapter on alternative therapies. It reviews infectious complications of HIV infections from a clinical perspective, including the diagnosis and treatment of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia and other protozoal, mycobacterial, fungal, bacterial and viral infections. Finally, it reviews the hematologic, endocrine, renal and cardiac complications of AIDS.
