Description
This volume examines the latest neurobiological and clinical research on depression and mania. Advances ranging from molecular biology and genetics to behavioural studies, pre-clinical and clinical pharmacology and prevention are highlighted. The text begins with a review of the neurobiology of depression, with a particular focus on dopamine. Other topics covered include: animal models of depression and mania; manipulation of inositol-linked second messenger systems as a therapeutic strategy in psychiatry; recent developments in genetics of biopolar illness; implications of a temperament-based classification of depression; pharmacological treatment of depression and comorbid anxiety disorders; and long-term prophylaxis of affective disorders.
