Description
Michael Graves is primarily known as a leading exponent of post-modern architecture. He has not only designed numerous buildings, but has also designed furniture, ceramics, textiles, and carpets. His name, however, is almost exclusively associated with his architectural work. This publication considers Graves's design work. It consists of essays by Laura Cerwinske, Rainer Krause, Janet Abrams and Michael Collins. The introduction is written by Aldo Rossi, Italy's most famous architect and a friend of Graves. The essays touch upon Graves's architecture, but the textual and visual emphasis is on his product designs. Illustrations of his work include photographs, sketches and drawings. Comments provided by his clients, friends and also prominent contemporaries in the art and architectural world are interspersed throughout the book. An exclusive interview is conducted with Graves by the editors. This is included in a special section. Both the graphics and interview offer a very personal view of Graves. The volume is supplemented by a biography of Graves and a selected bibliography.
