The high level of activity in the development of the oil and gas resources of the United Kingdom during 1988 is reflected in this report, with offshore drilling figures for 1988 showing an overall rise of 25 per cent over those for 1987 and almost twice as many development plans being approved in 1988 as in the previous year. Safety of employess is one of the aspects of the industry to be covered in this wide-ranging review, which also gives Department of Energy estimates of oil and gas reserves on the UK Continent Shelf, and facts and figures for oil and gas exploration, development, production and operational activities.
