Description and Table of Contents
Description
This is an overview of the science to be encountered in the paint (organic coatings) industry, for those well versed in chemistry but with perhaps no previous knowledge of polymer science. The physics of coatings application, film formation and performance, the chemistry of coatings components (notably polymers) and their assembly into paint, and the economic and legislative background against which coatings technology is tested are all covered in this text. The book describes, in simple terms, some of the chemistry and physics called on to support the constant innovation in the industry. Particular attention is paid to systems compliant with environmental legislation, such as high solids, water-based, and powder coatings. It also gives a general discussion of markets, in order to place the various coatings and technologies in context.
