This major book is a comprehensive, non-technical overview of the principles of environmental and resource economics. The economic causes and consequences of environmental and resource problems are thoroughly addressed by a distinguished group of authors who also provide a comprehensive assessment of environmental policy instruments and corporate responses to environmental problems.The economic causes of environmental and resource problems are the major theme of the first part of this volume which also discusses links to such important areas as growth theory, national accounting and public policymaking. The goals and principles of environmental policy are addressed in the second part which provides a comprehensive overview of the various instruments applied in practice. Means of analysing the economic implications of environmental policy are also discussed as well as the valuation of environmental quality and environmental policy in an international context. The third part shifts the focus to business decision makers to examine the involvement of firms with the regulatory process and the pay-offs provided by this involvement.
