内容説明

This volume presents Shannon's classical information theory, reviewing the main results and commenting on their interpretation. The author suggests some extensions and new developments, mainly in the area of source coding theory and the rate-distortion theory. He adopts the principle of the quantitization of states for the statement of the continuous channel. The theory is also applied to the problem of random errors of measurement in physical processes. Various mathematical topics, including the discrete Gaussian law, random walks and binary error-correcting codes, are covered.

目次

  • The structural properties of messages
  • spoken languages and telegraph codes
  • the evolution of systems
  • systems of continuous variation
  • information disturbances
  • the detection and correction of errors
  • the construction of redundant codes
  • coding effectiveness.
