内容説明

Bruges the artistic centre of Flanders was widely visited and admired long before modern international tourism discovered the marvellously conserved and restored city we know today. It reached its apogee in the Middle Ages as a European port trading centre financial hub and focus of the arts and retained its international dimension in later centuries. Bruges and Europe offers a comprehensive and richly illustrated synthesis placed in its historical perspective of the interaction between this Flemish city of art and the rest of Europe. Against the current background of European unification a team of experts explores the European vocation and international dimension of the city in both cultural and economic terms. The various aspects of cosmopolitan Bruges are approached from a dual viewpoint: the European presence in Bruges on the one hand and Bruges' presence in Europe on the other.
