内容説明

The purpose of this book is to provide all those with an interest in the history of the United States of America - whether students, teachers or the public at large - with an accessible and portable guide to the individuals, events, movements, parties, proclamations, Supreme Court decisions and wars that have helped to shape the evolution of the country's political and cultural life. Some 3000 written entries comprise a compendium of essential information on the history of public life, as well as of technological and scientific progress, of cultural achievement and of religious diversity. Full attention is paid to African American history, to the history of women and of the women's movement, and to the history of the American Indian peoples. The coverage extends from the Colonial period to the present, and entries are found on such diverse subjects as the Social Gospel, the Yippis, the Fourierists and the Woodstock festival.
