This study contains selected papers that illustrate several aspects of the aeolian Quaternary record as a general theme. There is a strong emphasis on the impressively thick stratigraphical records provided by the loess-palaeosol sequences of China and central Asia. The papers examine data derived from a range of complementary techniques: the marine oxygen isotope record, magnetostratigraphy, spectral analysis, magnetic susceptibility, anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility, rock magnetism, magnetic grain size, magnetic separation using the citrate-bicarbonate-dithionite technique, particle size analysis, palaeosol micromorphology, canning electron microscopy, carbon isotopes, electron microscopy, carbon isotopes, electron spin resonance, and luminescence dating.
