内容説明
Individuals and groups around the world have been harassed in retaliation for their efforts to protect the environment, and governments have suppressed information and debate about ecological dangers. On the eve of the United Nations environmental summit in Rio, Human Rights Watch and the Natural Resources Defense Council have documented this repression to demonstrate the link between human rights and the protection of the natural environment. This report is the product of a unique collabortion between leading human rights and environmental advocates. It features case studies ranging from the former Soviet Union, where near-total control gave the government virtual impunity to create an environmental nightmare...to Brazil, where environmental activists in rural regions have been killed...to India, where information on environmentally unsound and unpopular development schemes is suppressed...to the United States, where "whistleblowers" in the nuclear weapons industry have faced reprisals.
