Description

This work provides access to the principles that make optics useful for microwave/millimeter wave studies and illustrates these principles by describing specific applications. The author reviews current short optical pulse generation techniques and describes the interactions between optical pulses and materials that are relevant to optoelectronic methods for high-speed studies. The book features a detailed description of ultrafast optical measurement techniques, and reviews optical mixing in two- and three-terminal devices for the generation and control of microwave and millimeter wave signals. This volume is intended for scientists and engineers working in conventional microwave technology with little previous experience with optics; those in the traditional ultrafast optical community interested in microwave and millimeter wave applications; and students in either area.
