Description

Lorenz Hart, Richard Rodgers' first songwriting partner, was the most famous lyricist of the Golden Age of American song. His lyrics were acclaimed as the cleverest of the 1920s and 1930s, and through such shows as "On Your Toes", "Babes in Arms", and "Pal Joey", he helped to transform the musical comedy from a "revue" to a more dramatic form. This biography examines Hart's writing style, his relationship with Rodgers, and his spell in Hollywood. In addition, it explores the disorganization and sexual tension that not only marred his private life, but also rendered him an unreliable partner and an incurable alcoholic.
