Description

The rapid increase in the demand for international tourism has led a growing number of people to seek holidays and travel experiences in developing countries. Out of this trend has developed an important, but little explored interface between tourism and health. "Health and the International Tourist" highlights key relationships between tourism and health, looking at the behaviour, life-styles and risk characteristics of tourists, and the mechanisms for educating people about tourist-related health problems. The role of international tourism in the spread of diseases such as AIDS is also discussed. Providing a framework for discussion and a basis for future research in the area, this is a reference for students of tourism, travel and health management, as well as for professionals in related fields.
