Description

This text provides a guide to the treatment of varicose veins. It discusses the indications and contraindications for phlebectomy, selection of patients for office surgery and the importance of proper imaging and preoperative marketing. The major part of the book discusses phlebectomy of the long saphenous vein, but one chapter discusses the pros and cons for phlebectomy of the short saphenous vein, a more recent procedure. The section on techniques includes the specifics of instrumentation, anaesthesia and positioning the patient. Other topics covered include: incisions, hooking and avulsion; medications and bandaging; patient follow-up; complications; and psychological aspects.
