内容説明

The aim of this Turner meeting was to highlight the life span perspective of Turner syndrome, regarding both the research and clinical aspects. This symposium brought together researchers and clincians from different fields throughout the world as well as individuals with Turner syndrome in order to facilitate exchange of knowledge and the most recent findings. The book is divided into three parts: molecular genetic evaluation and prenatal diagnosis, growth, and medical and psychosocial management throughout life. The transition process from paediatric to adult care was highlighted, with specific focus on who should coordinate the medical care of the adult women with Turner syndrome, since different health care systems will provide different solutions. The importance of an adequate oestrogen substitution therapy from puberty onwards was stressed, in order to minimize problems later during adulthood. Areas involving bone mineralization, hearing, cardiovascular and autoimmunity problems and carbohydrate metabolism were presented, and the psychosocial aspects of being a girl or woman with Turner syndrome were highlighted. This book serves as a useful guide for researchers and physicians who care for girls and women with Turner syndrome.
