内容説明
One of the most traumatic periods of British history was also a time of exciting social upheaval. This book seeks to understand the social and cultural changes that were wrought during this time by charting the experiences of the adults and children, men and women, and different ethnic groups who lived the hard life on the home front. The book covers a wide range of issues ranging from racism to women's dress of the period, from professional football to morale in the Blitz, written by academics from many different areas of social and cultural study. It also includes a substantial autobiographical section with essays by Alan Silitoe, Stephen Knight and Peter Davidson, providing an informed personal slant to this archaeology of Britain's past. Pat Kirkham is the author of "Charles and Ray Eames: Designers of the 20th Century".
