Description

This is the final report of a study to assess the impact of Environmental Improvement Projects (EIPs) on urban regeneration. The report examines the extent to which EIPs achieve economic regeneration objectives by influencing potential investors in inner urban areas, the capacity for EIPI to assist regeneration, and the policy implications. The objectives of the study are to assess: whether EIPS, promoted for economic regeneration reasons, achieve their objectives; the extent to which environmental improvements affect the attitudes and perceptions of potential investors towards an area; the capacity of environmental improvements to help regenerate inner city areas, and the scale and capacity of environmental projects required; the policy implications in terms of cost effectiveness and targeting. The study is designed to seek best practice in EIPs and the lessons which may be applied to future projects.
