Description
This work provides an understanding of the important role of some ionic channels in the functioning of vascular smooth tone in response to vasoactive substances. It covers the different types of ion channels in vascular smooth muscle and focuses on the ion channels that regulate excitation, contraction, coupling and maintenance of muscle tone. The text emphasizes the role of different types of Ca2+ and K+ channels in the regulation of muscle function. It also examines the possible implication of different types of ion channels in the regulation of muscle function; discusses the biophysical, pharmacological and modulation of ion channels in vascular smooth muscle cells; and describes the cross talk between vascular endothelial cell released factors and immune system based factors and the ion channels of vascular smooth muscle.
