A guide to identifying British silver, not only by hallmarks, but also by the maker's mark contained in the hallmark. The author includes 2,000 makers' marks alphabetically, with dates, towns and descriptions together with an alphabetical listing of the makers' names. The book also details punch shapes, another element in the hallmark. A period design guide is included together with a section which identifies the main forms of engraving, punching and embossing which were used at different times. The author, Thomas Poole is a retired silver dealer who has spent over 20 years compiling this work. This guide is aimed at both the amateur and professional.
