This book gives an update of the state of the art of immunology and developmental biology of the chicken. A num- ber of chapters discuss the origin of hemopoietic cells, regulatory elements for the differentiation of these cells and B and T cell lymphopoiesis. Also included are a description of how to generate transgenic chickens. An additional basic feature in embryogenesis, the positioning of organ anlage, e.g., the limb bud, is comprehensively reviewed. A valuable compilation of monoclonal antibodies contribute to the practical usefulness of this book. Books on chicken immunology and developmental biology are rare.
