This text discusses the law relating to contracts where one party agrees to be answerable for debts or obligations of another to a third party. It thus deals with guarantees in the following categories: loans, consumer credit, hire purchase, landlord and tenant, and building and commercial contracts. In this edition expanded coverage is given of landlord and tenant issues and all important recent case law is provided, such as "Barclays Bank versus O'Brien", "M&S Fashions versus BCCI" and "Natwest versus Skelton", along with tactical advice on how to apply it. The impact of the Unfair Contracts Terms Directive on bank guarantees is discussed, as well as the possible defaults afforded by the new Regulations (1994).
