内容説明

This is a photographic tribute to the success of Oxfam during the 50 years of its existence. Primarily an album of specially-commissioned photographs, the book focuses on the people who do not hit the headlines, but need the support offered by Oxfam to escape a life of poverty and to achieve economic independence. Oxfam's success has been the way it has shown individuals and communities how to get on with their own lives and no longer be reliant on aid. Instead of simply fighting a losing battle against starvation and disease, Oxfam's operative principle is to include the people themselves in the development programmes. The book presents an extensive range of positive case-studies from around the world, giving insight into the lives of such diverse communities as shepherds in India, palm-oil producers in Senegal and even a theatre group in Ecuador.
