内容説明

Little is known of Mughal building techniques or the organization of the building industry in Mughal times, although the Taj Mahal and the Red Fort of Delhi are amongst the most celebrated buildings of the world. This study draws on data from contemporary Mughal and Western sources, and especially on the wealth of visual material afforded by Mughal and non-Mughal paintings, to elicit information about the role and status of architects, builders and court patronage. The kind of labour employed, its working hours, building materials, the influence of Persian architecture and the existence of plans are amongst the subjects that are discussed in detail.
