Description

The muscular dystrophies are a group of genetic diseases that severely affect children and adults. Ths book is about living with muscular dystrophy, and coping with its physical and psychological effects. Written specifically for people with muscular dystrophy and their families, it should answer many of the questions that are often asked about how and why it occurs, and how it will affect the life of a recently diagnosed child. The different types of muscular dystrophy are described with the minimum of technical jargon. Questions relating to exercise, physiotherapy, surgery and the emotional effects of the disease are answered, and advice is given on the problems of schooling and choice of career. At the end of the book, Professor Emery also provides a useful list of international muscular dystrophy groups and associations. Alan E.H. Emery is the author of "Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy" (2nd edition).
