Description
Part of a series of two volumes looking at Germany from the period 1800 to 1866. The books feature Germany as it begins the transformation from a traditional and fragmented society, dominated by the Estates, into a modernizing and increasingly centralizing nation, with a growing middle class. The momentum towards national unity was overwhelming and by 1866, when the Prussians defeated the Austrians at Sadowa, they stood at the threshold of Imperial Germany. This book looks at the period 1800 to 1848.
