内容説明
This volume examines the long-term consequences of nutritional status during the critical periods of intrauterine and early postnatal life. The major areas of emphasis are the outcome of malnutrition and the impact of early programming on the evolution of risk markers for cardiovascular disease, hypertension and diabetes mellitus. Coverage includes studies on the effects of malnutrition on somatic and mental development, the relationship of early fatty acid supply to mental development, and the long-term consequences of iron deficiency and lead toxicity. Close attention is given to the impact of early cholesterol intake on adult cholesterol metabolism anbd atherogenesis, the role of early sodium intake in the development of adult hypertension, and the relationship of early caloric intake to adult obesity. Other contributors explore the role of dietary exposure to certain antigens in the aetiology of type I diabetes and atopic diseases.
