Description and Table of Contents
Description
This book is based on the proceedings of a meeting held on 6 December 1993, and organized by the Radiation Protection Committee of the British Institute of Radiology and the commission of the European Communities Directorate General XI, Luxembourg. It comprises topical subject papers by leading interventional experts which offer a comprehensive review of current practice. During interventional examinations and procedures which involve the use of fluoroscopy, there is a potential for high radiation doses to both patients and staff. Interventional radiology poses extra radiation protection problems as specialised radiological equipment and extended fluoroscopy times may be used. This meeting addresses the radiation protection problems particular to interventional radiology. Coverage includes: a review of EC Directives; equipment for interventional radiology; a review of interventional radiology and cardiac radiology; outside worker directive and its implications; a review of patient and staff doses; use of automatic exposure control systems; and reduction of patient and staff exposure.
This publication should be of interest to radiologists, physicists, radiographers, cardiologists, and orthopaedic surgeons.
