内容説明

The fourth edition of this well-known pharmacology textbook retains the overall objectives of the first: to present accounts of drug actions and their mechanisms in an inexpensive, compact and up-to-date form. Intended for all those students of medicine and allied health professions who are embarking on the study of pharmacology, the book assumes no prior knowledge of the subject, assuming only a modicum of chemistry, biology and physiology as prerequisites. 'Basic Pharmacology' continues to provide an excellent introductory text for all those who are embarking on the study of pharmacology. Now in its fourth edition, this book has become an established undergraduate text, presenting a large and complicated subject in a comprehensive yet simple and concise manner. The succinct 'lecture notes' style of the text underlines the logical structure of the subject and makes the book easy to use for revision or for reference. Throughout, the emphasis is on principles rather than details, and on understanding rather than memorization. The authors of this book, the pharmacologists and their teaching colleagues of the School of Biological Sciences at Manchester University, have been able to draw on many years of experience both in the teaching and clinical aspects of pharmacology, as well as in laboratory-based and clinical research to produce a book that is both current and relevant to undergraduate studies across the medical and allied health disciplines. Completely revised and updated for the new edition, this book has been designed to help students appreciate the rationale underlying the uses of drugs in therapeutics. Now divided into nine well thought out chapters, each with its own particular pharmacological theme, the fourth edition of 'Basic Pharmacology' should continue to fulfil its established role as an outstanding undergraduate text.
