内容説明
Neoplatonism - originally the revival of the ideas of Plato - was conceived as deliberate opposition to Christianity. Yet its influence can be seen in the works of St Augustine and in the aesthetic writings of the Renaissance and beyond. Its appeal lies in its practical guide for living and its ethical ideal of Man. The extracts in this anthology have been chosen to illustrate the principle features of Neoplatonist thought and its spiritual curriculum for the redemption of the soul. Its exposition of idealism and moral aspiration ensure that it has contemporary relevance as well as philosophical interest. This book should make a useful text for philosophy courses.
