Description
The revolutionary vision in Iran in the early 1980s offered a new, mystical and somewhat perplexing paradigm that spanned economic, political, social and ideological spheres. This book argues that this has now been replaced by the emergence of a more realistic and pragmatic modus operandi. The new realism that has come to characterize the Iranian leadership has also become visible in the analytical work of mainstream scholars of Iranian affairs. This volume comprises several provocative papers that analyze the new direction and the mental metamorphoses of the Iranian government. In combination, this set of papers provides a view of the Islamic movement in Iran and elsewhere, of Iran's domestic and international economic and political policies, and of regional and international economic and security interests in the Persian Gulf.
