This Second Edition of Practical Aspects of Rape Investigation presents the latest research findings on the FBI study of the serial rapist. It also provides new and challenging directions for the investigation and prosecution of rape cases. This scientific national survey, conducted with more than 2,100 police officers presents their attitudes toward rape and how those attitudes affect their work with rape victims. This represents the most current knowledge for the investigation and prosecution of rape cases. The book details the rationale as well as the intricacies of the medical examination. It discusses current rape trauma syndrome cases and covers judicial decisions that highlight key issues in the prosecution of sexual assault cases. Updated discussions on the prosecution of rape cases, covering the latest standard processing procedures and the use of expert testimony are included. A new section on special offender populations in which experts describe the typology of child molesters, serial rapists, and sadistic rapists, completes the book. Major findings from one of the detailed studies contradict popular stereotypes.
