Description
This work starts with an overview of the topics of drug discovery and follows the individual stages of drug design and development, from the initial elucidation of a structure-activity relationship to the final processes of clincial evaluation and registration. Topics examined include the design of drugs for particular cellular aspects such as ion channels and receptors; specific classes of drug, such as peptidomimetics, antivirals and anticancer agents; the use of gene technology in pharmaceutical research; and the design and application of prodrugs to improve drug delivery.
