Description

Research in Humanities Computing is an annual publication which represents the state of the art in humanities computing. Each volume contains a selection of the papers presented at the joint annual conference of the Association for Computers in the Humanities (ACH), based in North Americam nnd the Association for Literary and Linguistic Computing (ALLC), based in Europe. ACH and ALLC are the two major associations for the use of computers in scholarly research and teaching in humanities disciplines such as archaeology, art, history, languages, literature, mucis and philosophy. This volume focuses on the computer treatment of texts in the context of literary and linguistic research. The papers are ordered to reflect a continuum from the mainstream of 'traditional' humanities computing research, through examples of work where recent research in other fields, notably computational linguistics, has had an impact, moving finally to papers concerned with the representation of tects in electronic form. This book is intended for teachers and researchers interested in computing applications in humanities disciplines, particularly for the analysis of text.
