Description and Table of Contents
Description
The latest topical paper from the UN Department of Political Affairs examines the current security trends in the Asia-Pacific region. With the eclipse of the East-West conflict many states are undergoing historic changes, including the Asia-Pacific region. In the main this is positive, but there is also growing disquiet as ethnic, religious and territorial disputes become more visible in the field of international relations. This paper, based on a meeting in Kathmandu of internationally respected experts, assesses the practical value of arms limitation and confidence-building techniques as a means of settling inter-state problems and looks at options for dealing with issues of common concern.
