Description and Table of Contents

Description

This volume features baths built between 1872-1940. Through numerous illustrations the architectural beauty and quality of these buildings is displayed. Baths have always been places of meeting for conversation and relaxation. Accompanying essays comment not only on the architecture, but also explore the social and cultural significance of public baths. Among the baths featured are the Art Nouveau Karl-Mueller-Volksbad (Public Baths) in Munich, the Friedrichs-Bad in Baden-Baden, the public bath "Am Plaerrer" in Nuremberg, the indoor bath Elisabethstrasse in Aachen and the Vierodtbad in Karlsruhe.
